Oops! This wasn’t supposed to happen. We were supposed to be slaves to petroleum and corn, but algae can yield at least 1000 times more oil than corn, and it can be customized. Investments in algae production could pay handsomely, leading to a reversal of the tide of campesinos moving across Mexico’s northern border. Those who migrated to the US because they couldn’t earn a living from their farms in Mexico may well be this continent’s new oil barons.
