Mercenary Company In Trouble Again

Blackwater, whose employees fought off a lawsuit over murders in Iraq on a technicality, has agreed to pay relatives of its 17 Iraqi victims.

They had escaped trial in Iraq under a no-longer existing agreement with the Iraqi government.

The Sydney Herald also reports two former Blackwater employees have been arrested in a separate shooting of two civilians in May.

Blackwater, which renamed itself Xe, did not disclose how much money is being paid out. Newser reported said $100,000 would be paid to relatives of each person killed and $30,000 to each person wounded.

Despite its unsavory reputation it still does business with the U.S., and two of its employees were among eight killed in an attack on a forward CIA post last week in Afghanistan.

Historians say when Rome got too big and employed mercenaries it began to crumble.

Meanwhile, the case against an alleged Aurora, Colo., terrorist still hasn’t gone to trial. The New York Times reported Friday that two more men allegedly involved in the polt were arrested in Queens. They were identified as Adis Medunjanin, 25, and Zarein Ahmedzay, 24. Their lawyer denied any involvement.
