D.A. Cooley to hold press conference with two pit bulls, introducing dog fighting ‘tip line”
Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley will hold a press conference on Tuesday November 17th with two ‘rescued’ pit bulls and will announce, in conjunction with the Humane Society of the United States, a 24-hour “dog flghting tip line”.
The D.A.’s website states that residents who call the tip line can “collect up to $5,000 if the information leads to the arrest or conviction of individuals involved in the brutal sport of dog fighting”.
The pit bulls who will accompany Cooley are touted as “rescues’, a term which was not used in the public lexicon until recent years. Lost dogs used to be called ‘strays’, and pit bulls, who regularly visciously attack, kill, and even eat people as documented in the press, were virtually unheard of. Owners of canines today are often referred to as guardians by animal ‘advocates’, in what some properly refer to as a sort of Orwellian mind twist.
L.A. County, with a 2009-10 budget of $22.712 billion, over nine billion of which is allotted for “Health/Social Services”, spends $21.3 million for “animal care and control”. There are a number of laws and ordinances which regulate dog ownership in the county.
