Libyan opposition divided by rebel’s return
WITH signs of a rift growing in its highest ranks, Libya’s rebel military has acknowledged its soldiers’ role in a mistaken NATO bombing of rebel columns.
Opposition leaders said the strike, which killed 13 rebels and injured seven, incinerating several cars and an ambulance, came after rebels fired their guns into the air in celebration.
”It was a terrible mistake, and we apologise, and we will not let it happen again,” said Abdul Hafidh Ghoga, vice-president and spokesman of the opposition’s Transitional National Council.
As the main front line between rebels and government forces remained somewhere near the outskirts of the oil town of Brega, it was in the western city of Misrata that the Gaddafi regime appeared to be making its most violent push. <SNIP>
