Ore. school removes holiday tree, bans Santa Claus
ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) - The principal of an elementary school in Ashland, Ore., has removed a holiday giving tree from the school after several families complained it was a religious symbol.
The Ashland Daily Tidings reports that Bellview Elementary Principal Michelle Zundel had the tree taken down over Thanksgiving break and replaced by two snowmen.
Like the tree, the snowmen have tags suggesting gifts for needy children. However, the newspaper says the move has upset dozens of parents who say the tree was simply a way to celebrate the season and help those in need.
Zundel has created new guidelines for school holiday displays, which includes bans on trees and Santa Claus figures. She’s scheduled a meeting this week to discuss the guidelines.

I wonder who the people were who complained about the Christmas Tree. I wonder if they know the celebration with trees origninated in pre christian times, to celebrate the soltice, and therefore should not be considered a threat to Jewish or athiests .
