Springtime in Gitmo
by Mark Yannone
All this talk about closing the United States federal government’s Guantanamo Bay Torture, Personal Development, and Multidenominational Ministry Retreat brings back memories.
Don’t mind me — I get this way every Spring, when balmy breezes wafting in from the Pacific and the Caribbean are toasted to 100 degrees or more over our aromatic deserts and deadly snake preserves. Normally a glass of cold water and a good night’s sleep will cure the Spring fever, and I won’t think about Guantanamo’s refreshing waterboarding, stress-position competitions, sleep deprivation marathons, and mouth-watering low-cal menus for another year.
But today I read that the federal government “is planning to release Islamist prisoners from Guantanamo Bay into the US population — and then pay them!”
Doesn’t that bring back memories, eh? Ohhh, yeah.
