Parents beware! What you think may be helpful to protect your child may be a Trojan Horse in reality.

Pardon the Greek imagery, but what Echometrix has been doing with their Sentry and FamilySafe software programs is clearly a Trojan horse. If you can recall, the Trojan Horse was let into the ramparts of Troy thought of as a peace offering from the invading Greek hordes. Once the horse was led into the city, from within Greek soldiers were able to overrun the city to end the epic war. The software does the same thing as it uses its promised filtering dangerous elements from entering your pc and thus influencing or harming your children. As soon as you install the program, you will find that the internet activities would be recorded and then later on collected by the programmer. The information obtained would then be resold as “marketing information” to third parties.

See the similarities? Ultimately, the information can be used to target children in marketing campaigns and then to bypass the supposed filtering purpose of the program. This is not only illegal, it is also unethical. Obtaining information without parental consent and then profiting from it is a clear attack on our children’s and very own privacy. So avoid the Trojan horse named Echometrix for your children as well as your own safety.
